Paul Tompkins


Paul has specialized for 30+ years in advising and implementing creative life insurance solutions for many of Canada’s most prominent business families. He works closely with the family members, their internal family office teams as well as their external legal and accounting advisors. This specialized work provides him a unique perspective on business family succession and estate liquidity matters that few others can offer.

Paul and his team are recognized by accounting and legal firms across Canada as experts in the use of life insurance in trust and estate planning. He is a former chair of the Conference for Advanced Life Underwriters (CALU), a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and graduate of the Family Enterprise Advisor Program.

Paul is a former member of the Board of Governors of Crescent School, an independent school for boys, chaired their successful $35 million capital campaign and former co-chair of the $60 million campaign for Pathways to Education, a national organization that helps at-risk youth graduate from high school.

He enjoys skiing, golf and spending time with his 4 grown children.

Allen Baker

Managing Director

Allen is Managing Director of Tompkins Insurance.

Prior to joining Tompkins, Allen spent 23 years with PwC Canada, 10 as a Partner, where he held various senior positions within the Private Company Services practice advising private business owners and their families.

Allen has held several Board and Cabinet positions, most recently as a Member of the Southlake Hospital Philanthropy Cabinet.

Joshua Garnett


Joshua’s primary focus is on the product design and illustrative process of our strategies. Joshua’s expertise in financial modeling helps ensure an optimal client experience throughout the development of customized insurance-based solutions. Prior to joining Tompkins Insurance Services in 2017, Josh spent over 6 years at Sun Life working in the design and pricing of insurance products and leading their advanced solutions team develop insurance-based concepts and strategies.

Joshua is actively pursuing membership with the Society of Actuaries and the Institute for Advanced Financial Advisors through the completion of the ASA and CLU designations.

Nicolas Tompkins


Nicolas has been with Tompkins for over 5 years. He works closely with all members of the Advisory Team in designing solutions & presentations and managing underwriting & policy service. Nicolas has a Bachelor of Science from Dalhousie University and is currently working on completing his TEP designation.

Prior to joining our team, Nicolas worked at a prominent family-owned international enterprise operating in the Maritimes.

Nicolas is married and enjoys many outdoor activities in particular scuba diving.

Marcel Tremblay

Vice President, Finance & Corporate Services

Marcel has been with Tompkins for 25 years.  He oversees all administrative, financial, compliance and technology functions, and collaborates with the policy support & service team to ensure the best client experience.  Prior to joining Tompkins, Marcel spent 6 years at Manulife working with several regional teams across Canada.

Marcel achieved his CFP designation in 2008 and has been a member of the Institute for Advanced Financial Advisors for over 15 years.

Marcel lives in Whitby, enjoys running, barbecuing, and spending time with his wife and two children.

Florence Marino

Vice President, Tax & Estate Planning

Tompkins insurance is honoured to welcome Florence Marino, as Vice President, Tax & Estate Planning to our growing team.

Prior to joining Tompkins insurance, Florence was the Head of Tax, Retirement & Estate Planning at Manulife. Over her 34-year career at Manulife, she developed her reputation as a nationally recognized expert on life insurance, tax and estate planning.

Florence is a co-editor of the Canadian Taxation of Life Insurance, currently in its 11th edition and Editor-in-Chief of Insurance Planning, both published by Thomson Reuters. She is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation, Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners and the Conference for Advanced Life Underwriting. Florence is a frequent speaker and author at these and many other organizations.

In her new role at Tompkins, Florence will continue her active involvement in the tax and estate planning community and be a resource to professionals in the field for our valued clients.
